Saturday 10th
May
Bolsover 285-8 (10 points)
Thoresby 83-1 (9 points)
Thoresby again witnessed an innings of pure class from Tariq Rashid, Bolsover’s Pakistani Professional. He dominated from start to finish, only falling to the penultimate ball of the innings for a superb 168.
Bolsover started playing shots from the off and it was not until the ninth over before the breakthrough was made when Patel bowled opener Hindle. At this point the weather started to deteriorate and it was not long before the first stoppage. With only sixteen overs bowled forty minutes were lost meaning the game was now a ‘time match’.
On the resumption Thoresby took two quick wickets, but again the rain came down and the players were forced off for another twenty minutes. The next time play resumed Bolsover took complete control with the bowlers finding it difficult to grip the ball in the wet conditions. The later stages of the innings provided Thoresby with five more wickets to claim three bonus points. The last three overs of the innings were played in quite heavy rain and very poor conditions.
After tea another twenty minutes were lost to rain. The final spell of
play lasted just an hour before the rain returned. In this time Thoresby
lost opener Birkett, but Nash and Winslade took control and looked well capable of getting
close to the huge target. Play was finally abandoned after just fourteen overs of the second innings.
This was not a great performance and Winslade not
being able to bowl was a big loss. The stupidly short boundaries did not
help the bowlers and the game was spoiled by the weather. The other big down of
the game was the loss of skipper
