Thoresby
Colliery 115 for 3 [20 points]
The way this season is shaping up come September we will have a team full of
bronzed bodies as it seems that when the sun shines, even with the (un) lucky
New Zealand coin, Chesh can’t win a toss, so the sun tan lotion came out
as again we were fielding first.
Winslade and Patel opened the bowling and, after taking a few overs to
find their line, settled into their normal high quality of bowling. Patel was
the first to strike with a good short delivery that the batsman could only
spoon in the air to the keeper. Winslade then struck twice in an over to be on
a hat trick. This he failed to gain by a tiny margin as the batsman played and
missed. A sober Dancing Dave was then brought into the attack and rolled
back the years with a vintage display of off spin bowling, his first victim
being the ex Thoresby player Hussain. Nash was then brought on and
quickly took three wickets to continue his rich vein of form. This brought
ex-West Indies A player Andy Jackman to the crease and soon showed his
class striking a number of boundaries before the pressure of having to score
the runs became too much and he became Dave’s second victim, a very good catch
from Patel doing the job. Winslade was then brought back and removed the
last two batsmen.
In reply Chesh and Dnash started well before Chesh got a lifter and
gave a catch to the keeper. Hughes came to the wicket and was soon into his
stride hitting boundaries before Jackman bought his wicket with a long hop.
Birkett hung around a while with Dnash to put on thirty odd before falling to
an excellent catch by the keeper. Chatterton then joined Dnash to
finish the job off, Dnash completing a second consecutive fifty.
Overall another excellent bowling and fielding display with a number of good
performances, which should give us great confidence going into next week’s big
game at Cutthorpe.
