23rd August
CUTTHORPE 191-5 (16 POINTS)
THORESBY 142-4 (5 POINTS)
Again we fielded first, with Willis and Winslade opening the bowling. Willis
was very unlucky in his first over when Paul ‘Jonesy’ Hughes put down a very
hard chance off Marples. But Stevie got his man a few overs later when PJ
held the second chance. Winslade then struck at the other end before a stubborn
partnership held up the attack. Lippeatt came on and finally got the
breakthrough. This then saw another good partnership for Cutthorpe
before Stevie returned to remove both batsmen, Butt falling for a chanceless
85.
In reply we got off to a flyer with Chesh smashing the ball to the boundaries
regularly. Dnash was out to a good catch at slip. Paul struggled to find his
usual form and was out pulling a short ball. Chesh went through to an excellent
fifty before giving a return catch to the bowler. This brought young Ben to the
crease, he struggled against the turning ball but grafted it out and gained
good experience before he was out lbw. There then followed three quick wickets
which killed off any chance of victory. Nige was finally out with three overs
remaining, leaving Flinton and Dickens to see us through to a draw.
It has to be said this was one of our worst performances of the season, let’s
hope this was just down to the next day’s Semi Final.
