We arrived at Farnsfield to find the ground in excellent condition with a very short outfield. Yet again Chesh lost the toss and out came the suncreen.
The partnership of Winslade and Patel were back together and out of the
first 18 balls , 10 beat the bat as the two openers bowled with pace and
movement. Winslade was the first to strike bowling Delaney with a great delivery
that nipped back. Wilko then took a superb catch at gulley to get rid of
Hodgkin again off Winslade. Patel then got in the act having Farnsfield
skipper Edwards well caught by Chesh at slip. Winslade then took a
third wicket before being replaced by Nash who bowled a great spell to take
four wickets for only nineteen. Nash was so accurate that he was bowling with
only two men on the legside yet hardly conceded a run on that side. Dancing
Dave replaced Patel and immediately took a wicket with one of his well
disguised long hops. Patel returned at Dave’s end and took another wicket as
Farnsfield were bowled out with nine overs remaining.
We started off steadily with forty seven on the board before Chesh was
caught trying to push the scoring rate. Hughes joined Nash and the two played
shots all round the ground before Nash was lbw just after bringing up his
fifty. Hughes then cut loose against the tiring Silcock and only Birkett
fell before victory was secured with Hughes only six short of a deserved fifty.
This was an excellent team performance with a number of players
contributing. Due to the silly money paid out by amateur cricket clubs it now
seems almost customary that when we do well we get all the digs about certain
players being paid. It is rather sad that teams can not understand that some
players play for the love of the game.
On returning to the club there was something of
a heavy metal night with DJ Nash!!!
