Saturday 5th July

At Park Avenue, Glapwell:

THORESBY COLLIERY (20) 166 all out (Martin Cheshire 55, Stuart Hall 3 for 36)

beat

GLAPWELL (4) 118 all out (Ben Winslade 5 for 37, Daniel Nash 3 for 23) by 48 runs

We made the short trip to Glapwell and not unexpectedly found a damp pitch due to the very wet week we have just had. There was also no great surprise in the outcome of the toss given Chesh’s recent record.

Chesh certainly made amends for his deficiency with the coin as he scored a superb half century on a very difficult pitch against ex Notts player Andy Pick and young Matt Hall, who both bowled very well. Dan and Chesh had put on 78 before Chesh was bowled going for a big shot. Dan was run out shortly after and Nige got his customary birthday duck. Chat and Paul took the score to 112 before they both fell in the space of a couple of overs. Stevie played freely and was looking like cutting loose when he was bowled by a good slower ball. The rest of the batting fell away although Ben was unlucky to be run out when Dancing Dave’s drive was deflected onto the stumps.

As usual Winslade and Patel opened the bowling, with the latter back to his best beating the bat on numerous occasions without any luck. Winslade was, in fact, the first to strike as he bowled with less pace but great accuracy. Then batsmen never looked comfortable against him and he began to run through the Glapwell batting, even running out top scorer Burcumshaw with a sixty yard throw to the non striker’s end. When Winslade took a break he had his second five wicket haul of the season. Nash had been brought on for Patel and swung the ball straight away, getting three wickets. Willis took the final wicket and the game ended with Glapwell bowled out with 5 overs to spare.

This was another excellent team performance, with three players getting runs and another different three players taking wickets, with Ben Winslade taking the man of the match honours.

Ben would like to dedicate his performance to his Grandfather Norman.
