Saturday 24th May

GLAPWELL                     206-4 (15 POINTS)

THORESBY COLLIERY 183-4 (6 POINTS)

The awful wet weather finally let up to allow a game to be played, albeit reduced to 42 overs a side due to a heavy shower five minutes before the game was scheduled to start.

Cheshire, returning from injury, won the toss and decided to field. Winslade and Patel began with an aggressive spell of fast bowling; Winslade was unlucky when Rossington dropped a catch at slip with the rather eager Cheshire diving across him. Fortunately this was not an expensive drop as Winslade got his man caught behind a couple of overs later. At the other end Patel was beating the bat on a regular basis with no luck.

Patel was then replaced by Evans. He struck immediately, getting Truswell bowled. Hutchinson then came on and bowled with little luck; in fact at one point it seemed the umpires had forgotten the lbw rule. Hutchinson then had a catch dropped by Patel, who on his return to the attack finally claimed a wicket caught behind only to see the umpire signal a no ball. Nash was then brought into the attack and claimed the third wicket clean bowled. The fourth wicket was claimed with an excellent throw from Hughes to run out Graney.

Overall though, a very disappointing fielding and bowling display with an horrendous 58 extras underlining the need for discipline.

In reply Thoresby started off poorly, Birkett out lbw to an agricultural wipe. Hughes was out not long after, another lbw victim, as the ball kept low from ex-Notts man Andy Pick. There then followed an excellent partnership between Cheshire and Nash, putting on 134 and taking Thoresby to the brink of victory. At this point Bircumshaw was brought back into the attack and he bowled a very tight line to frustrate the batsmen. As the run rate climbed Nash was bowled for an excellent 60, looking for the big shots that were now required. Patel soon followed and Thoresby had to be content with the draw. Cheshire remained unbeaten on 82.

This was a decent batting effort and, but for some very good ground fielding by Glapwell, would have been even closer.
