Saturday 7th June

THORESBY COLLIERY 231-8          (8 POINTS)

HOSIERY MILLS     233-6 (17 POINTS)

This game was marred by one of the worst umpiring decisions seen at Thoresby in a long while.

Martin again lost the toss and once more we were sunbathing.

Willis and Winslade again opened the attack in the absence of Patel due to his girlfriend having given birth to a daughter. Many congratulations to them both. Willis made the first breakthrough having Smail caught behind. Nash then took a smart catch off Winslade to dismiss Loveridge. The umpire then stepped in to change the course of the game, Winslade bowled a lifting ball to non-pro Mckensie which took the glove and deflected nearly to first slip where keeper Birkett moved across to catch. Unbelievably the umpire gave not out, the other umpire was seen to shake his head in disbelief at the decision his colleague had given.

Willis then struck again to remove veteran Clive Graham. Mills official pro then came to the wicket and mixed shots of high quality with some very poor ones. Both openers were then replaced and Evans struck in his first over to remove Jayasinga. Nash then removed Appleton and Best in quick succession. Langford then joined Mckensie in what was to prove the vital partnership of the game adding 105 runs. Mckensie brought up his hundred which, although dropped twice and given a second go by the umpire, contained shots of high quality.

In reply Thoresby got off to a great start with Chesh stroking the ball to all parts whilst Dan gave excellent support at the other end. The two had put on 137 before an unfortunate run out brought the end of Nash. Hughes was then well caught for a duck before Willis joined Chesh to see him to an excellent ton. Chesh was then well caught and Chat also fell caught before Birkett and Willis seemed to have the game won only for Willis to be caught going for another big hit. Wilkinson did well and caused another controversial incident, what looked like six was only signalled four by a lone boundary fielder. Wilkinson, Birkett and Evans were then all dismissed in a mad few minutes. This left Winslade and Dickens to get 11 to win off the final two overs. Hopes were raised when Winslade hit a boundary but he lost the strike and the last 2 balls were both scoreless.

Whilst as players you have to accept you will get bad decisions, it is hard to take when one leads to the batsman scoring a hundred and changing the course of a game.
