On arrival at North
Wheatley we were greeted by absolutely no one, as usual. It must be a home
tactic, leave opposition standing outside a locked shed. With time on our hands
a lengthy inspection of the pitch took place. This was found to be very wet, in
fact rolled mud best described it. Chesh finally won a toss and asked the home
side to bat.
The first three
overs went by with nothing really happening. The fourth over was the start of
the fireworks as Shailesh Patel took the first wicket with an unplayable ball,
this feat was repeated in his next over along with a plumb lbw. At the other
end Winslade was bowling an excellent line with very little luck.
Patel’s next three
overs resulted in four more wickets and at one stage he had the amazing figures
of 7 for 1. He then became more expensive and conceded four more runs!!.
Winslade then claimed two wickets, both bowled. The final wicket fell to a run
out and the home side’s score would have been worse but for fifteen byes.
Cheshire (25n.o.)
and Birkett knocked off the required runs in just six overs to give Thoresby
maximum points from their first two games. The game finished at 3.20 pm and a
long night’s drinking began in the Sun Inn, then continued at Edwinstowe.
