Retford 201-5 (17 points)
Thoresby 183-7 (7 points)
We arrived to find the Championship Trophy on display as Retford had
clinched it the previous weekend. This maybe brought home the fact that had we
not lost so many close games we might have challenged. Retford though, it has
to be said, are worthy winners, having gone the whole season without defeat.
Chesh yet again lost the toss (this is getting boring now) and we
fielded again!!!
Ben found a good line, on a very flat slow pitch, with very little
luck. At the other end Say found it difficult to find a good line and was
replaced by Dancing Dave who struck immediately, Big Ben taking a good catch.
Then followed the decisive period of the game as some shocking umpiring saw Ben
robbed of three wickets. It really is amazing how umpires can fail to give easy
decisions; both batsmen, even, could not understand why they were not given out
lbw when stood on the stumps, and an edge that everyone on the ground heard.
Dave struck to take a second and third wicket before both Ben and Say returned
to take a wicket each.
In reply Chesh and Dan started well and had forty-one on the board
before Chesh was out to an outstanding caught and bowled. Paul and Dan then
took the score over a hundred before another shocking umpiring decision gave EX
Notts player Randall his first wicket. It really is strange how many players
with Notts gear get favourable lbw decisions. Say played some big shots before
falling to an excellent boundary catch. Paul then fell and, despite a good
cameo from Big Ben, the total proved a few too many. Little Ben gained good
experience helping to secure an extra point at the end.
This was another good performance where we just failed to get over the
line.
