Thoresby
Colliery II 199 – 8 (6pts)
Thurcroft
II 200 – 6 (19pts)
A
strange thing happened to Rossi on Saturday………. “ I only went to the shop to
get a loaf……. and ended up in Cutthorpe! “
Due
to late arrival of “Party Animal “ Wilko from Cavos John was drafted into the
First Team at 12.30 and Alan took his place in the seconds along with big Bri
making an earlier than anticipated return.
Once
again Rob lost the toss and set about naming his batting order. Hutchy
volunteered for every position until he was allocated the number 10 spot which
Rob pointed out was in fact far too high for him.
The
game got underway with the experienced Billy Pitchford and John Hill opening
the bowling against the equally experienced pair of Mick Case and Ian Godfrey.
After a slow start Casey got into his stride cutting and driving and with
Godders rotating the strike the scoring rate began to increase. Casey reached
his 50 but nobody seemed to notice, unperturbed he carried on regardless.
With
the score on 142 Godders was run out for a patient 44. Wilko joined the fray
and was soon into his stride hitting a 4 and two huge 6s into the adjoining
school field before a leading edge to mid off saw him dismissed for 17. Stuart
came and went in the same fashion. Ben joined Mick and saw him through to a
superb ton, shortly afterwards he gave himself run out and returned to the
pavilion in a state of total exhaustion and asking not to take any further part
in the game.
The
rest of the batting fell away in the quest for quick runs. Ben looked solid
until finding mid wicket with a full blooded shot, Jeppo hit a couple of 4s
before Rob, who was about to face the last over informed Hutchy, who was umpiring at square
leg he would be next in. Dressed in only shorts and shirt Hutch returned to the
pavilion, three balls later Rob was out and Hutch was bundled out of the
dressing room kit in hand. Having attired himself at the wicket he settled down
to face his first ball (the only other delivery he has faced this season was in
the first game when he was despatched for a golden duck) which was of a full
length outside off stump. Hutch selected the top edged Swaft from his wide
repertoire of shots and promptly hit it straight to short third man……oh dear !!
Hutch will now enter July still without a run to his name.
The
Thurcroft innings began with the home expecting to complete a comprehensive
victory but the visiting openers had
other ideas, attacking the ball at every opportunity in particularly Robinson
who somehow managed to play Jeppo from just in front of square leg. Six bowlers
were used before Brian broke the opening partnership with the score on 124 –
Robinson departing for a hard hit 80. The visitors remained up with rate
despite losing a further 5 wickets and duly completed victory in the last over.
The only bright light for Thoresby was the return of Bri who picked up 5 for
61.
We
returned to a sombre dressing room to contemplate an unthinkable result which
was particularly hard on Mick considering his superb efforts.
