Sunday 20th April

THORESBY COLL 161 ao

RADCLIFE ON TRENT 142-7

Late drop outs of  Senior pro Mick Case and Trolley Dolly Rossington due to the cold weather meant the late inclusion of Winslade and Nash who themselves had only just been defrosted from the previous day’s arctic adventure at Welbeck.

Thoresby won the toss and elected to bat and were soon in trouble losing wickets regularly until they got to 23-5. At this point Hughes and Nash took control putting on 103 runs before Nash was dismissed for 42. Hughes went on to make a fine 72, after his dismissal other than a useful 15 from Marson the innings fell away and Thoresby were bowled out with three overs remaining.

Radclife started well except for the early wicket that fell to Marson. At one stage they were 94-1 then the introduction of Winslade changed the game as he quickly clean bowled both batsmen who had looked well set. Skipper Walker then rotated his bowling and the evergreen pairing of the hairless Lippeat and Golden arm Evans took wickets and contained the Radclife batsmen and Thoresby ran out comfortable winners.

SUNDAY 27th APRIL

THORESBY COLL 235-3

NEWARK 143 ao

Thoresby batsmen ran riot after Newark had struck an early blow in the second over, opener Dickens well caught in the covers. Winslade and Hughes after a cautious start against a decent opening attack then stroked the ball to all parts of the ground putting on 142 runs before Hughes was out for his second successive score of seventy when a century looked a certainty. Flinton then joined Winslade and after a shaky start played some nice shots. Winslade completed his maiden century in the 35th over to generous applause from his teamates. He eventually fell with just three balls remaining. Hughes 76 Winslade 118 and Flinton 30no was the main run scorers.

Newark started off positively against some wayward bowling from Marson, but he then found a better line and took the first wicket with the score on 42. Nash then clean bowled the other opener before a decent stand took the visitors score into the nineties. Veteran Cheshire was then brought on and virtually wrapped up the game with three quick wickets before his dodgy knee gave way and he had to be removed from the attack. At the other end debutante Alan Wilkinson made a good start to his Thoresby career taking a couple of wickets along with a sharp chance at slip which he somehow held between his cheeks!!. The two youngsters of the side willis and Wharton where then brought on and both took a wicket which along with a willis run out finished off the Newark innings with ten overs remaining.

A good allround performance with everyone contributing with even Nigel(mark barlow) Birkett taking a catch.
