Sunday 1st June

RADCLIFFE ON TRENT   150 ao   (0 POINTS)
THORESBY COLL               153-4     (4 POINTS)

Thoresby made the long journey to Radcliffe (well it was the way I went!!) expecting a tough game and found a very weak opposition due to cup commitments. Though due to half of the Thoresby team being led astray by Dancing Dave Evans, allegations of gross nudity and a
3am finish to drinking, this was probably a good thing. It seems the Saturday parties get later and later and surely it wont be long before we turn up to a Sunday game to find Dave’s gang still at the ground!!!.

For the second day running the team had to endure fielding first in the heat. Flinton and Winslade opened the bowling and kept a good line, Flinton taking the first wicket before being replaced by Birkett who took the second. At the other end Willis had replaced Winslade and also took a wicket. The bowling was changed at regular intervals, but when asked to bowl at the far end Dancing Dave’s reply was "I can’t even see the other end".
Marson came on and bowled well to take three wickets before having to be removed due to injury. Willis and Flinton were given second spells and wrapped things up to both finish with three wickets.

At the interval a heavy shower broke out and very unsportingly the home side refused to put the covers on, leading to the pitch becoming very dodgy.
Cheshire and Smallwood opened and, in difficult conditions, batted very well to take the score to 84 before Chesh was stumped (run out). This brought the great drinker Dancing Dave to the wicket, but unfortunately he could not match the previous day’s heroics and was soon back in the pavilion informing all that his head was "banging". Smallwood was then bowled five short of a fifty and free drinks from his dad. This brought the previous nights winner of the air guitar comp, Winslade, to the wicket (sure dnash will retain his crown). He also could not match his superb innings of the day before and was dismissed by a smart catch. Nash then came to the wicket and quickly scored the runs to take Thoresby to an easy victory.

The return journey took in a trip to the Unicorn to top up Dancing Dave’s alcohol levels.

FLINTON 3-41               WILLIS 3-44                 MARSON 3-10               CHESHIRE 52               SMALLWOOD 45                     NASH 28no

Sunday 8th June

THORESBY       (2 POINTS)

SOUTHWELL 49-1 (2 POINTS)

Thoresby again lost the toss and had to field. Winslade dismissed Southwell pro Jhunjhunwale first ball, the player having made a hundred the previous day against WI Cavaliers. A huge shower then caused the end of play. The visitors then chose to abandon the game an hour later.

Sunday 15th June

THORESBY    230-5     (4POINTS)
ORSTON          191 ao  (0 POINTS)

There was tension in the air as the captains marched out for the toss, then jubilation as we finally won one and were able to relax in the blazing sun as the opposition got to run around and get a tan. The innings started badly as Marson was lbw to his first ball. Winslade and Wilkinson then grafted hard against a useful opening attack before Wilko was also out lbw. Winslade was next to fall stumped off the young leg spinner. This brought Hughes to the crease and after a cautious start he went on to murder the attack hitting four huge sixes. At the other end Birkett completed another fifty before being well caught on the boundary. Chesh then helped Hughes put on a hundred for the fifth wicket, during which Hughes completed his second ton of the season.

In reply Orston were contained by the accurate Nash who also took two wickets. Thornhill played an excellent lone hand in trying to get Orston up to their target, falling just one short of a century. As normal in Sunday fixtures, the bowling was rotated and everyone played their part. Special mention must also go to the fielding which was excellent, very rarely were twos taken even to the long boundaries. The final wicket was taken by youngster Smith which meant every player had contributed something to the victory.

HUGHES 103no        BIRKETT   52
CHESHIRE 34          NASH 2-25              FLINTON   2-26                WILLIS       1-26

 Sunday 29th June

PCCC                                        180-7  (4 POINTS)

THORESBY COLLIERY         133 ao (0 POINTS)

On making the journey to Nottingham we arrived at the ground to find absolutely no one , further inspection and we found the building to be locked and ounce we had located the (SQUARE) no pitch prepared. We were just preparing for a long afternoon in the pub (Dancing Daves idea) when about ten minutes before the start of the game two of the opposition turned up. They were equally clueless as to what was happening, a number of mobile calls later and they announced we were all at the wrong ground. As things turned out it was a pity this guy did not stay at the wrong ground!!!

After a ten-minute detour we arrived at the alternative venue to be told it was the council who had changed the game. I think PCCC somehow thought the council would let us know about the change of venue.

The toss was made outside the pavilion which was only about 2 miles from the pitch,  having lost the toss (this is now becoming pointless as we never win it) we got to bowl first on a pitch which would have made the Bilsthorpe lads feel at home, although I was informed it was not quite as bad as there cabbage patch.

The aforementioned opposition player took his place as umpire at both ends and proceeded to turn down all appeals regardless of merit. The final straw being when he gave a clear catch to the keeper not out, his mate at square leg also giving the stumping not out with the batsman well short of his ground with the keeper stood up. To cheat twice of the same ball really is unbelievable and especially given that the trouble which led to one of there players being banned from cricket for life two years ago was all started by cheating.

This team beat us fair and square in the first game and have a number of good players so really do not need to cheat but after this second incident in the four games between the two teams I personally would  not wish to play against them ever again.

HUGHES 55   WINSLADE 2-44 CHESHIRE 3-46

WE STOPPED FOR A DRINK AT THE “WORLDS END” WHICH WAS VERY APPROPREATE AS WE FELT WE HAD BEEN THERE ALL AFTERNOON!!!
